Despite the dry subject matter the Talmud makes interesting reading because it is infused with vigorous intellectual debate, humor and deep wisdom. "Rodkinson's Talmud is, by definition, an abridgement for modern readers. He left out only the sections where the debate spins off into complete obscurity, and was careful to document where he did so." In response to customer requests, on 6/12/2008 we added hundreds more links, to improve navigation through this huge text. Click on a volume to go there. Then in the table of contents for that volume, click on a chapter title to go there. And from the chapter, click on the chapter title to go to the summary of that chapter. If you bought a copy before, you should be able to download the revised version from Amazon at no additional cost. The product number is the same.

Good content, poor formatting, 2008-02-01
This translation/adaptation of the Babylonian Talmud (the introduction says that duplicate sections were removed, but nothing "of substance") is as lucid as it can be to someone outside the language and culture it circumscribes. However, it would be very well served by a much more comprehensive hyperlinking format. I would want the summary of each mishna connected to the full mishna & gemara in the main chapter, so as to 'flip' back and forth between the explication and the text. Footnotes from the original text leave only their reference numbers in this edition, with no links.
