Product Description The further fortunes of everyone’s favorite assistant as she struggles to keep her footing on Hollywood’s slippery slope
In The Second Assistant, readers fell in love with smart, witty East Coast girl Elizabeth Miller. Now that Lizzie has been promoted, can she still keep her pumps firmly on the ground in the city of stars? With a viperish subordinate after her job, the world’s hottest teen starlet to keep out of trouble and a boyfriend on location with a beautiful actress, she certainly has her hands full.
The satire is sharper than ever as Naylor and Hare take another wry and hilarious look at the wheeling, dealing, schmoozing, and snubbing that make Hollywood the cutthroat capital of the world. The First Assistant is a lesson in how to survive in a town where tonight’s Oscar frock is tomorrow’s laughing stock.

You got to read it if you love Hollywood, 2008-11-01 So the book takes a nosedive at the beginning and sends our heroine to Thailand, babysitting for a LL wannnabe. OMG, but somehow the write manages to get back on track to deliver a beautiful finish. I loved it. I would recommend this chick lit book to anyone who loved the first one. It's a must read. But do me a favor, read 2nd assistant.

Enjoyed it despite not having read the first book , 2008-06-16 This book appealed to me - a young girl living a Hollywood dream of many...with famous boyfriend, movie sets and glamour plus the downfalls of such a life. I had not read the first book regarding this character, but its really easy to pick up on the story and if you want a fun read, without stress and complicated storylines, then this could be the book for you. Pure escapism.

Good for a Quick Fluff Read, 2008-04-08 I read the first novel in this series and liked it enough to buy this one. I enjoyed it as a break from other "heavier" novels. It has plenty of name and brand dropping, and the pretentious characters in LA are laughable to us normal people who don't make millions a year. It was entertaining--the chapters on Lizzie's trip to Bangkok are both hysterical and horrifying. It was interesting to have a brief look at all the empty, superficial people in the biz and the people who cater to them, but also at the ones who manage to be immersed in all that and still be genuine. It was also pleasantly surprising to see Lara get "fat," Scott deal with his addictions, and Lizzie move out of her dumpy apartment and meet a nice guy. A great breezy read, especially for the beach.

Nothing spectacular, but entertaining., 2007-08-18 This was a quick and easy read, which I welcomed after reading some heavier and more serious books this summer. While this wasn't a groundbreaking novel by any means, it was entertaining and light--perfect for the beach or to occupy some time while traveling.
As others mentioned, some of the plot didn't make any sense (the scene with the Swedish mafia, the boyfriend cat's, etc) or add anything to the novel. I did enjoy the gossipy vibe of the novel and loved the part that obviously poked fun at the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes marriage. It had been a while since I'd read The Second Assistant: A Tale from the Bottom of the Hollywood Ladder and it seemed to draw a little bit of the storyline from the first novel without much explanation.
In the end, it was the literary equivalent of Cheetos--it's yummy and satisfying, but you don't receive any nutrients from it and you don't feel especially full when you're done with it.
