Bear Position

Bear Position Definition

Bear Position is the equivalent of selling short. Traders who establish a bear position expect that prices will fall. Therefore they sell securities, currency, or goods they do not possess, and hope to cover their short position by buying the previously sold items at a lower price. Their profit or loss is the difference between the purchase price and the original sale price.
