Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) is a type of employee ownership. Its goal is to motivate and reward employees by providing them either shares of the company, or the possibility to buy shares at a given price. It usually occurs after a certain length of employment or it can be linked to performance. Employees can buy stock directly, can receive it as a bonus or can obtain stock options.
