Greenback

Greenback Definition

Greenback is an informal term for a United States dollar bill. Greenback currency notes  were originally issued by the North during the American Civil War in 1862, they got their name from their color. In the mid-1800s, it was a negative term, as the Continental Congress did not have taxing authority, therefore its notes did not have a secure financial backing and banks did not give their customers the full value of the dollar.
