Insured Bond

Insured Bond Definition

A debt obligation whose interest and principal payments are insured against default by a third party. This type of bond is protected in two ways as it is guaranteed by both the revenues from the issuer and by the insurer. Insured bonds have very low risk, therefore higher credit ratings and lower coupon yields than uninsured bonds. Insured bonds are often municipal bonds.
