Mainstream Economics refers to economics taught in prominent universities. Theories of mainstream economics are considered being orthodox. It is associated with neoclassical economics and with the neoclassical synthesis, a combination of neoclassical methods and Keynesian approach economics. The basis of mainstream economics is the assumption that individuals make their decisions to maximize their own utility.
