MBO Definition

Management Buyout – MBO means purchase of a company by the existing management. The managers of a firm acquire a large part or all of the corporation from existing shareholders such receiving controlling interest in the company. Usually outside financing is involved in order to get the required capital for the MBO. Management buys out the firm because they think their expertise can be better used if they control the ownership.
