Premium Bond

Premium Bond Definition

Premium Bond means a bond with a selling price higher than its face or redemption value. This occurs when the bond's coupon rate exceeds the interest rate prevailing at the time being. If a bond was issued with a 4% coupon rate and other bonds pay 3% interest, this bond is more valuable. Its increased value will be reflected in a higher selling price.
