Qualifying Stock Option Definition

A benefit given to corporations that allow employees to purchase stocks at discounted prices. Employees are eligible for this option if s/he is employed by the company (or a subsidiary of the company) and the strike price of the option is equal to or greater than the stock’s market value at the time of purchase. These options are regulated the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
