Self-Regulatory Organization Definition

Self-Regulatory Organization (or SRO) is a non-governmental agency that has the ability to create and enforce industry rules and standards.  An SRO’s first concern is to protect investors through the creation of rules that support ethics and equality.  Examples of SROs include the Investment Dealers Association of Canada and the National Association of Securities Dealers in the United States.
