Dollar Shortage

Dollar Shortage Definition

Dollar Shortage occurs when a country does not have enough dollars to pay for imports. In case  US investors deposit money in foreign banks, the amount of dollars in that country increases. When    investors discover better possibilities somewhere else, they can withdraw their money from that country. If the demand exceeds the ability of the banks to pay in dollars, a dollar shortage is generated. The shortage can be especially critical for emerging markets.
