Insured Financial Institution

Insured Financial Institution Definition

Insured Financial Institution refers to an institution that is covered by deposit insurance. In the US all banks and savings institutions need to be insured. Protection of deposits in member institutions is guaranteed up to a specified amount by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Savings Association Insurance fund or by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. The FDIC also performs certain consumer-protection functions by supervising certain financial institutions for safety.
