Qualified Dividend Definition

A dividend that is subjected to a lower tax rate. In order to be classified as qualified dividend, it needs to follow a given set of specifications. First, the dividend must be paid by a U.S. company, or a foreign company on the qualified list. Furthermore, it must not be on the IRS's list of non-qualifying dividends. Finally, it has to meet the specified holding period.
