Realized Loss

Realized Loss Definition

Realized Loss refers to the loss that occurs when an asset is sold for a price lower than its purchase price. If the price of a stock falls, but it is not sold, the loss remains unrealized. A realized loss can be applied against realized gains to reduce taxable income.
