Regional Exchange

Regional Exchange Definition

A stock exchange focusing on stocks of companies in its geographic region. The major U.S. regional exchanges are the Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Pacific, and Philadelphia stock exchanges. They are significantly smaller than exchanges operating at the national level. Many of the stocks traded on regional exchanges are not listed on national stock  exchanges. However, regional exchanges also list stocks which are traded on the regional and the national exchange as well.
