Self-Directed IRA

Self-Directed IRA Definition

Self-Directed IRA (SDIRA) means a kind of retirement account in which the individual makes all investment decisions. This gives greater opportunity for asset diversification as not only stocks, bonds and mutual funds but also real estate, private tax liens and notes can be purchased. The securities and investments are held in an account administered by a custodian or trustee. Legally a self-directed IRA is not different than any other IRA.
