Statutory Reserves

Statutory Reserves Definition

Statutory Reserves mean state regulated reserve requirements for insurance companies. These are liabilities that need to be maintained with respect to the un-matured obligations (i.e. expected future claims) of the company. In order to be able to meet these obligations, the insurance company must hold a portion of their assets as either cash or liquid marketable investments. Reserves reduce the risk of insurance.
