Structural Unemployment

Structural Unemployment Definition

Structural Unemployment refers to unemployment resulting from changes in the basic structure of the economy due to technological revolution. When technology develops rapidly, demand in the labor market does not match skills and locations of the workers. Even if the number of open positions is equal to the number of the unemployed, people seeking for employment lack the skills needed for the jobs. In the same time, new positions open for trained workers.
