Wealth Effect Definition

The wealth effect is an economic term, referring to an increase in spending that accompanies an increase in perceived wealth.  If investors feel confident that their investments are still making money then they are likely to spend more.  The opposite effect is also true if the investments are not making money then they will spend less.
