Federal Reserve Credit Definition

Federal Reserve Credit refers to credit granted to the banking system by Federal Reserve Banks. The FED lends funds on a very short-term basis to member banks in order to meet their liquidity and reserve needs. Credit is provided by a variety of sources such as Reserve Bank discounts and advances at the discount window, Treasury and federal agency securities and additional sources of credit, including longer-term extended credit.
