State-owned enterprises are created by the government to undertake commercial activities on the government's behalf. The aim of government-owned companies is usually to serve a specific public purpose with public funds.
In the U.S, the federal government owned corporations operate to provide public services, but have a separate legal personality from the federal government. They sometimes receive budgetary appropriations, but some also have independent sources of revenue.
